Sustainable hobby groups It is good to find others interested in your hobby that you can share that interest with, so the SLSG also has hobby groups for people to join. The hobby groups involve the options of an online chat group, or phoning those interested, or for regular get-togethers (and phone or online get-togethers) – even an annual get together where you all meet at one area, depending upon how apart the members are. And you can take turns meeting at each other’s places. The options are up to you, and what you want to do! So, if you are interested in any of the below groups phone us (on 02) 4845 1952, or email us (at Enquiries@sustainablelifestylesupport.org ) and the hobby group will get in touch with you. Put your name and contact details in the email and put the hobby group’s name in the “subject” header of the email. You can also provide any other information that you think may be of interest – such as skills, expertise or specific interests. Also, if you have a sustainable / environmentally friendly hobby please tell us about it – there may be others that could be interested in your hobby and in taking it up as a hobby. Fab 50’s; for all those 50 and over - (includes a sub-branch for single women over 50) A lot of people are thinking of retiring and having a tree change or sea change. But sometimes things can go wrong. One of you may get sick – or you may find that sometimes it is such a lot of work! - Particularly if you are single. This group is a support group that can help you and it is made up of people also over 50 (including single women) who are helping each other achieve their goal. – And sometimes we can even offer equipment, or expertise, or an extra pair of hands. So if you are looking at taking that extra step, join us and we should be able to help you (we can even tell you of some good areas or not-so good areas to move to.) Environmentally friendly artists & artwork There are wildlife art groups and botanical art groups for people wishing to draw our fauna and flora. BUT at the present time, with oils, acrylics and the need to use acid free paper (etc) a lot of artwork is not eco-friendly. This group is for all those who wish to draw or paint without having a harmful impact upon the environment that can be their inspiration. Lord of the Rings Yep. If you read LOTR, the hobbits (and the elves also) are the ultimate in sustainable lifestylers – with their simple lifestyles, good food, willingness to party and enjoy life, and their appreciation of all that is …“green and good”. If you’re a LOTR fan join this group and meet other LOTR fans amongst those who are also trying for a sustainable lifestyle. Making magical music: and making sustainable music Making music while not destroying the planet – that’s magic! Some musical instruments are more environmentally friendly than others. This group looks at making music in a more environmentally friendly manner. If you have other sustainable interests / hobbies There are other groups out there that are more environmentally friendly hobby groups. If you’re not sure, tell us what your hobby is and we’ll tell you if there is a group of people out there interested in the same hobby. E.g. other sustainable hobbies could include: breeding rare farm animals; looking after injured wildlife. Got the need for speed – instead of motor cars / motor boats, etc, try sailing – particularly on a catamaran! Or surfing. There are many hobbies that are sustainable – and these should be encouraged rather than the more damaging hobbies. Would you like to tell us of your hobby, or start your own hobby group, or are others in your area interested in other hobbies? If so, please provide details of your / their hobby.
